Loading the forecast for Acadia…

Acadia was the first national park east of the Mississippi, and much of it was assembled from land donated by summer residents of Mount Desert Island. The result is a compact park where pink granite mountains drop straight into the cold Atlantic, with spruce forest, quiet ponds and fishing harbors tucked in between.

The park's most distinctive feature is its network of carriage roads, built by John D. Rockefeller Jr. between 1913 and 1940. These 45 miles of car-free gravel roads wind past lakes and across 16 hand-cut stone bridges. Cadillac Mountain, at 1,530 feet, is the highest point on the US Atlantic coast, and from early October to early March it is among the first places in the country to see the sunrise.
