Privacy policy
What this site collects, why, and the choices you have.
National Park Trekkers (nationalparktrekkers.com) is operated by Volt Grid Media, LLC ("we", "us"). This policy explains what information is collected when you visit the site and how it is used.
The short version
- There are no accounts, logins, sign-up forms or payments on this site.
- We don't ask for your name, email address or other contact details.
- We use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages are useful. It uses cookies and collects information about your device and how you use the site, but not your name or email.
- We don't sell your personal information or share it for targeted advertising.
Information collected automatically
We use Google Analytics 4, a web analytics service provided by Google LLC. When you visit, Google Analytics may collect:
- The pages you view, how long you stay and the links you click
- The website or search that brought you here
- Your browser, device type, operating system, screen size and language
- Your approximate location (country, region or city), derived from your IP address. Google Analytics 4 does not log or store IP addresses.
- A randomly generated identifier stored in a cookie, so repeat visits can be counted
We use this information only in aggregate, to understand how many people visit, which parks and pages they read, and how to improve the site. We have not enabled Google Analytics advertising features or Google signals, and we don't use this data to identify you personally. Analytics data is kept for up to 14 months and then deleted automatically.
Google processes this data under its own terms. You can learn more at How Google uses information from sites that use its services and in the Google Privacy Policy.
Cookies and local storage
- Analytics cookies. Google Analytics sets cookies named
_gaand_ga_*to tell visits apart. They expire after up to two years. - Saved parks. If you star a park, that list is stored only in your own browser using local storage. It is never sent to us, and you can clear it by removing the star or clearing this site's data in your browser.
- Affiliate partners. If you click a link to a partner such as Booking.com, Viator, GetYourGuide, Amazon or REI, that partner may set its own cookies on its site to credit the visit or purchase to us. Those cookies are controlled by the partner and covered by its own privacy policy.
Your choices
- Block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The site works normally without them.
- Install the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on to stop Google Analytics on every site you visit.
- Use a browser or extension that blocks trackers.
Do Not Track. There is no common standard for how websites should respond to browser "Do Not Track" signals, so this site does not currently respond to them. The choices above work regardless.
Other services your browser connects to
To display this site, your browser connects directly to a few outside services. As with any web request, they receive your IP address and basic browser information:
- Our web hosting provider, which may keep standard server logs for security and reliability
- Google Fonts, for the typefaces on this site
- The National Weather Service (api.weather.gov), to load forecasts on park pages
Links to other websites, including the National Park Service, Recreation.gov and our affiliate partners, are covered by those sites' own privacy policies.
If you email us
If you contact us by email, we'll receive your email address and whatever you choose to include. We use it only to reply to you, and we don't add you to a mailing list.
Selling and sharing
We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, as those terms are defined under California and other U.S. state privacy laws. We may disclose information if required by law.
Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live, including California, other U.S. states, the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom, you may have the right to ask what personal information we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, or to object to its use. Because we don't collect names or contact details through the site, we usually hold nothing that identifies you. To make a request, email admin@voltgridmedia.com. We won't treat you differently for making a request.
Google Analytics data is processed by Google, which may transfer it to the United States and other countries.
Children
This site is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to this policy
If we add features such as accounts, a newsletter or advertising, we'll update this policy before they go live and change the date below.
